  • Continue research for presentation
  • Organize information according to the following categories:
Your Individual Immigration Story: 
Who?  (Age, Gender, Family, Job, etc)
Where From?  Where To? (suggestion: use maps!) 
When?  (Give a little history...what was going on in the world, Canada at that time?)
Why? (Push and Pull Factors)
How? (Method of travel, how long did it take?  etc.)

General information about past and present immigration to Canada by this group

In Lab - Please Complete Activities in the following order:

  1. Classes of Immigrants Definitions: use Immigration Glossary
  2. Type Final (Good) Copy of Letter to Editor - Shoal Lake 40 .  When finished, please PRINT and  HAND-IN TO MRS BETTGER
  3. Immigrant Story Research: Start with Pier 21 Information to complete front side of handout from yesterday THEN locate 2 other RELIABLE SOURCES in order to record further details using chart on back.
  4. Remember to use EasyBib to keep a record of your sources (should be a minimum of 3 sources)
HOMEWORK FOR MONDAY: 
  • IMMIGRATION STORY PROFILE RESEARCH MUST BE COMPLETED AND HANDED IN AT BEGINNING OF CLASS (FRONT AND BACK OF HANDOUT)

During today's class, we looked at class census data.  Remember that statistics can be interpreted and misinterpreted - any analysis you are asked to do should be thoughtful and informed so that you avoid "jumping to conclusions" that may or may not be accurate (when in doubt, ask more questions).
